PBP60203 - STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT
This master level course is an extension of the generic strategic management course commonly studied at the bachelors level. Students further explore the concepts of strategic management by taking the role of a CEO of a preferably a public-listed company (to facilitate access to information). Each session, aside from analysis cases, students discuss emerging strategic issues affecting their respective organisation and deliberate on how the issues should be managed. The organisations assigned to students include multinational companies and Malaysian home grown corporations representing the major key economic areas in Malaysia such as oil and gas, manufacturing, services, tourism, financial services, and the oil palm industry. By using a systematic strategic audit framework, students learn how to apply strategic management concepts and theories to formulate, implement and evaluate strategies in organisational setting; and gain a view of how businesses are run globally. Strong emphasis is placed on corporate governance, ethics, sustainability and leadership.
