CEB20303 - ENVIRONMENTAL MICROBIOLOGY & CHEMISTRY
This course introduces the fundamental concepts of chemistry and microbiology with application to the environment. You will be introduced to the existence, characteristics, behavior and effects of harmful chemical substance in environment medium and the control of it applying chemical principles. You are also being trained on basic principles and practical applications of microbiology to identify and solve environmental problems.
CEB20303 - ENVIRONMENTAL MICROBIOLOGY & CHEMISTRY
The subject covers three interlinked, major topics: 1. Environmental Chemistry which covers chemical reactions and kinetics, 2. Environmental Microbiology that covers detection methods, classification and physiology of the microorganism in the environment, and 3. Environmental Applications of Microbial and Chemistry related to the major environmental cycles and chemical reactions such bioleaching, biosorption, biocorrosion and microbially enhanced oil recovery. Series of experiments and mini projects will be implemented to enhance knowledge acquisition and hands-on experience in common environmental sample analysis.
CLO 1: Apply the principles of environmental chemistry and microbiology in relation to the quantification of pollutants and various processes of sustainability (C3)
CLO 2: Display basic laboratory skills for investigating chemical and microbial processes in the environment (P3)
CLO 3: Perform scientific investigations on various environmental problems in relation to environmental chemistry and microbiology using appropriate techniques or resources (P4)
