CLO1: Explain the evolution of the ocean and ocean basin.
CLO2: Describe the features of the coastal and marine provinces.
CLO3: Examine the air-sea interaction and its effects on offshore activities.
CLO4: Analyse the various elements in ocean circulation and waves including their effect on maritime operations.
CLO5: Analyse the influence of tides and tidal stream on shipping and port activities and the coastal environment.
LOM10303 - MARINE TECHNOLOGY
This is a course aimed at providing students with the fundamental concepts of marine propulsion systems and its ancillary systems that are used to propel the ships. The course will enable students to differentiate the auxiliary supporting systems that are installed onboard and provide the basic skills on marine auxiliary support system operation and maintenance.
Upon completion of this course students should be able to:
- Evaluate the working principles, design features, performance characteristics and the application of the main types of ship propulsion systems (L4).
- Evaluate the performance and the merits of pumping systems (L4).
- Describe the performance criteria of steering gear system (L4).
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate about the
marine technology (L3).
- Evaluate the working principles and performance of marine refrigeration
system (L5).

LOM10503 - MARITIME LAW
This
module teaches maritime law covering international regulations
of shipping, collision and salvage, legislations related to ship ownership,
marine safety and other related topics. The learning of maritime law at post graduate level is further enhanced by
the discussion of maritime cases and contemporary issues through case studies
and oral presentation delivered by the students.
