This course involves a careful examination of drafting as a tool of technical communication and for solving graphical problems. Competency in communicating both conceptual and technical information to industry standards are essential skills in the engineering field. Emphases are on development of basic drafting skills, visualization, and solution of spatial problems. Students study use of dimensions, shapes and angles or views of such drawings. Dimensions feature prominently, with focus on interpretation, importance and accurate reflection of dimensions in the technical drawing. Other areas of study in this course may include projected views, axonometric drawing, cross sections and tables.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:

1. Construct (P4) proper drafting techniques when solving a variety of drafting problems such as the various standard ANSI lines, drawing entities, border lines, and title block used in drafting/design;

2. Demonstrate (C3) properly uses a variety of basic drafting equipment and materials;

3. Sketch (P4) proper Pictorial Drawings sketching techniques to aid in visualisation of orthographic drawings;

4. Construct (P4) proper techniques to develop multi-view drawings using orthographic projection;

5. Identifying (C2) different drafting techniques when solving a variety of drafting problems as well as the various standard ANSI lines, drawing entities, border lines, and title block used in drafting/design;

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course students should be able to.

1. IDENTIFY (C1) and DESCRIBE (Cl) the appropriate regulatory requirements relating to turbine engines constructions

2. EXPLAIN (C2) the constructions of the turbine engine using appropriate drawings or schematic diagrams

3. EXAMINE (C3) the operations, working principles and their related components using appropriate drawings and schematic diagrams

4. TROUBLE-SHOOT (P4), INSPECT (P1) and CARRY OUT (P4) replacements of the turbine engine components as per the relevant technical documents

5. PERFORM (P4) servicing of the turbine engine components as per the relevant technical documents.

6. PERFORM (C3) all documentations relevant to the rnaintenance tasks carried out on an aircraft in accordance with the appropriate regulatory requirements

Describe the operations of the turbine engines’ systems and their related components using appropriate drawings and schematic diagrams.4. Perform inspections, trouble-shooting and replacements of the turbine engines’ systems and components as per the relevant technical documents. 5. Perform servicing of the turbine engines’ systems and components as per the relevant technical documents. 6. Effect the documentations and certifications for maintenance tasks carried out on an aircraft in accordance with the appropriate regulatory requirements.

Upon completion of this course students should be able to:

1.  DESCRIBE the relationship between atmospheric conditions and human physiology needs with respect to Aircraft Air Conditioning and Pressurization Systems.

2.  DESCRIBE typical constructions, systems layout and components of the Oxygen, Air Conditioning and Pressurization Systems using appropriate drawings or schematic diagrams.

3.  EXPLAIN the operations of the Oxygen, Air conditioning and Pressurization Systems and their related components using appropriate drawings and schematic diagrams.

4.  PERFORM inspection, servicing, analyzing findings on Aircraft Oxygen, Air Conditioning and Pressurization Systems and components as per the approved relevant technical documents.

4.      Perform inspections, trouble-shooting and replacements of the piston engines’ systems and components as per the relevant technical documents.

5.      Perform servicing of the piston engines’ systems and components as per the relevant technical documents.

6.      Effect the documentations and certifications for maintenance tasks carried out on an aircraft in accordance with the appropriate regulatory requirements.

This course is designed to teach engineering drawing to the students using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software. This course leads students to an understanding of engineering drawing. The students also will be given exposure to use CAD software for exercising their skills and knowledge to complete 2D and 3D drawings by using AutoCAD.

This course provides students with fundamental knowledge and practical skills in engineering drawing and computer-aided design (CAD) drafting. It covers traditional manual drafting techniques and modern CAD applications, enabling students to produce accurate technical drawings used in engineering and manufacturing processes.

Students will learn to interpret and create technical drawings, apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and utilize CAD software for 2D and 3D modelling. The course emphasizes precision, technical standards, and real-world engineering applications, preparing students for careers in design, manufacturing, and engineering fields.

The ability to put two-dimensional geometry in form of multi views drawing and three-dimensional geometry in a form of Pictorial drawing, that can be communicated to others engineers, supervisors, technicians and non-technical person is valuable asset. The most importance is know how to prepare, read and understand the graphic being prepared. Ability to understand and use the standard system through the Assembly drawing reading also essential for a maintenance technician or engineer.

FFB12503 Engineering Drawing and CAD Drafting

This course provides students with fundamental knowledge and practical skills in engineering drawing and computer-aided design (CAD) drafting. It covers traditional manual drafting techniques and modern CAD applications, enabling students to produce accurate technical drawings used in engineering and manufacturing processes.

Students will learn to interpret and create technical drawings, apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and utilize CAD software for 2D and 3D modelling. The course emphasizes precision, technical standards, and real-world engineering applications, preparing students for careers in design, manufacturing, and engineering fields.

1. Apply the standard terminology, abbreviations & conventional representations in engineering drawing.
2. Solve a 3D view to 2D views and vice versa using AutoCAD
3. Construct a complete 3Dand 2D engineering drawing using AutoCAD

 This course is essential because it provides students with the knowledge and principles of engineering drawing and enhances students’ knowledge or skills in engineering drawing. It also exposes student’s in-depth skills to the process of reverse engineering in engineering drawing application.

This course explain how to read the technical drawing

Comics are usually defined as a medium that are made from the combination of words and pictures, though most of the times, images are more privileged in comics than written texts. It is common to observe how comics usually follow a certain sequential pattern in the reading and the layout of the panels, which are from left to right (for Western and Malaysian readers), and right to left (for Japanese readers). The great American Cartoonist Will Eisner defines comics as ‘sequential art’, since comics are made up of sequence of panels and drawings in telling the story. 

Comics Studies offers students unique journey in creating their own comics. Comics as a sequential art is a very influential medium and we can see their influence especially in illustration, animation, film and even literature. The course explores the medium of sequential art in its unique way in creating visual narrative. Students will be exposed to contemporary theory of page layout, creative writings and character design, while emphasizing artistic and comics appreciation. At the end of the course, students will build visual and technical vocabulary that is applicable to industrial experiences. 

The course covers the four language skills i.e. reading, writing, listening and speaking with major emphasis on grammar.

This course will equip students with important reading skills such as skimming, scanning, predicting outcomes and drawing conclusions. 

In listening, students are able to listen to various text types and respond critically to ideas and opinions presented. Students will be exposed to paragraph writing for various types of essays.

The course will also expose students to appropriate conversation / social interaction skills; to make them understand process and barriers in communication and effective presentation techniques which will enable them to present and communicate effectively in public.

This module provides an overview of engineering drawing and develops the skills and knowledge associated  with the reading and interpretation of technical drawings, ship drawings and the application of geometric construction and the detailing of components by free hand sketching.

This module covers the concept of ship structural design principals and characteristics in preparing the ship drawing required by classification societies and the statutory bodies. Rationale for inclusion of course in the Programme is to expose the student on the principles and characteristics behind the design consideration of the ship types, structural considerations, scantling and strength and their importance during preparation of ship drawing for classification society’s approval and the requirement of statutory bodies. These works are essential to prepare the students in their design work when they are on the job.

This course will include projection and dimensioning in drawing using CAD, integrate standard terminology, abbreviation and conventional representation, sectional view, auxiliary view and perspective drawing.

Engineering Drawing serves as an essential guide tailored specifically for beginners entering the world of engineering and design. The course will provide the complexities of engineering drawing, providing a clear and accessible introduction to the fundamental principles that underpin this critical skill. Computer-Aided Design (CAD) is recognizing the importance of technology in modern engineering. Step-by-step tutorials on CAD software ensure that students can seamlessly transition from traditional drawing methods to digital platform.

This course focuses on developing essential manual skills in fashion illustration and design communication. This course emphasizes traditional drawing techniques, such as mastering body proportions, dynamic poses, and garment visualization. Students will learn to depict fabric textures, garment details, and movement using hand-drawing tools.

By the end of the course, students will have a strong foundation in creating professional-quality fashion illustrations, preparing them for advanced courses like CAD for Fashion in the following semester.
